Why do I need a Small Bowel Video Capsule Endoscopy?

The primary reason for capsule endoscopy is to examine the small bowel in your gastrointestinal tract. Some of the reasons for having a capsule endoscopy include:

 

• iron deficiency anaemia (lack of iron in the body) 

• obscure gastrointestinal bleeding (bleeding from a point not reachable by a traditional endoscope) 

• suspected coeliac disease and inflammatory bowel diseases 

• abnormalities such as polyps (small growths), seen on CT or MRI scans.
