Banding

0.00 - 0.01 Oesophageal varices (enlarged blood vessels in the gullet as a consequence of liver disease) are visible in the distance.

0.02 - 0.21 A suitable varix (blood vessel) has been identified for banding.

0.22 - 0.30 The varix is sucked into the plastic cap and a blue band is applied (the bands are mounted on a clear plastic cap), this causes the varix to collapse, reducing the risk of dangerous bleeding.

0.31 - 0.50 The banded varix is visible as the gastroscope is withdrawn slowly.

This video shows a single varix being banded, upto 6 bands can be places on various varices (and at various parts of the vessels) during the procedure.
